Albufeira in February can be quite tranquil compared to its bustling summer months. You'll find the town quieter, with fewer tourists, which can be a plus if you prefer a more peaceful atmosphere. The beaches may not be ideal for sunbathing or swimming due to cooler temperatures, but they still offer scenic walks and a peaceful ambiance. Here's our guide to the weather in Albufeira in February.

Albufeira weather in February at a glance

  • February weather in Albufeira remains relatively mild, with temperatures averaging between 9°C to 16°C (48°F to 61°F).
  • Rainfall continues to be moderate, with occasional showers still common during this month.
  • You can expect low crowds compared to peak tourist seasons, providing a quieter atmosphere for visitors to explore the area.

Is February a good time to visit Albufeira?

February brings a milder climate in Albufeira, ideal if you hope to explore without the sweltering summer heat.

Though it’s not peak beach weather, you'll still catch plenty of sunny days to enjoy being outdoors. You’ll just want to be prepared, as there's always a chance of a quick shower. You can expect an average of 52mm of rainfall in February, which will occur sporadically throughout the month. That said, these showers are typically short-lived and followed by the sun.

Swimming in Albufeira in February is still quite chilly for most visitors. That said, the beaches in Albufeira can still be enjoyable for other activities such as beach walks, sunbathing (with plenty of layers), or simply taking in the coastal scenery.

One perk of visiting Albufeira in February is that it is not as crowded as during the summer. You’ll get more space to roam and better deals on places to stay and activities. Plus, getting around is easier with fewer tourists clogging up the roads.

Overall, February sets a relaxed scene in Albufeira, offering mild weather, fewer crowds, and a chance to enjoy outdoor fun without the scorching summer sun.

Average temperatures in Albufeira in February

The weather in Albufeira in February is on the cooler side for the area. During the day, you can expect average highs around 16°C (61°F), with nighttime lows dropping to around 8°C (46°F). It's not the warmest month in Albufeira, but it's certainly not freezing either.

Daytime temperatures are comfortable for outdoor activities, though you might want to bring along a light jacket or sweater, especially as evenings tend to be cooler. In the evenings, temperatures can dip even further, so be sure to bundle up if you're planning to be out after sunset. Because February is in the winter in Portugal, you’ll also want to plan for shorter days.

As for the sea temperatures, let's just say it's not exactly inviting for a swim. In February, the sea temperature tends to hover around 14°C (57°F), which might be a bit too chilly for most folks. That said, the beaches still remain warm and pleasant enough for long walks, or relaxing with a view.

Compared to other months February maintains similar temperature ranges to January and December. The weather typically begins to warm up in the spring, with May being the beginning of the peak season.

What about the crowds & costs?

In February, Albufeira tends to be quieter compared to the hustle and bustle of the summer months. This means you can soak up the sun on its beaches, wander through historic sites, and or explore the town with a bit more tranquillity. Just keep in mind that while the crowds may be lighter, the weather can be a tad cooler and there's a chance of rain, so make sure to pack accordingly.

Visiting Albufeira in February can actually be pretty budget-friendly compared to the high season. You might find lower prices for accommodations and activities, and many restaurants and shops may offer off-season discounts or promotions.

That said, some tourist hotspots, like beachside cafes or water sports facilities, might have reduced hours or even be closed altogether during February.  If you’re more interested in a quiet getaway and are willing to trade off some beach time for less crowds, February could be the perfect month for your trip.

On the other hand, if you're after warmer weather and still want to dodge the crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder season in April or September. These months offer better weather than February but with fewer tourists than the peak season.
